Greenwich Riverside
Saturday 19th October
Meet 1145 for a 12 noon departure outside Island Gardens DLR station, Isle of Dogs.
(How to get there details will be sent by email!)
This walk into London's maritime history starts in dramatic fashion! We will dive deep under the Thames via a Victorian foot tunnel to emerge in glorious Royal Greenwich, once home to a Tudor Palace beloved by both Henry VIII and Elizabeth. We will see the country's last surviving tea clipper - the elegant Cutty Sark, on our way to the impressive Naval College, where we will visit its beautiful Wren-designed Chapel, and enjoy the riverside views from its grounds. Walking east through charming Georgian lanes we will see hear about the Victorian fashion for whitebait feasts before enjoying ending up at The Cutty Sark, one of London's most historic and charming pubs (not compulsory!).
