SECRET CITY GARDENS
It's back! The Secret City Gardens walk (with new locations added!)
Saturday 27 APRIL; 1115 to depart 1130 sharp
(Start and finish location TBF by email but will be City area tube stations)
The weather is forecast to improve City of London is the oldest part of the capital and hidden amid its vistas of concrete and glass lie dozens of secret green havens and hidden spaces, many of which have fascinating stories of queens. The Secret City Gardens walk will explore the history of gardens large and small that have bloomed in blitzed or ruined churches and graveyards, and as part of some more modern developments. (For previous garden walkers, this walk will revisit some of the West City gardens but also some new discoveries, please feel free to email me for more details.)
Among the gardens we will visit (final route TBF):
- the C11th cloister garden of a priory hospital and birthplace of the St John Ambulance NEW
- a Black Death plague pit turned pocket park NEW
- a herbal 'physic' garden amid Roman ruins NEW
- a vista over the Barbican gardens NEW
- a reflection pool framing St Paul's
- a beautiful garden created out of a blitzed church - once the final resting place of Plantagenet Queens and the body of one Tudor heretic, minus her head...
As ever, we will end up in a pub for lunch/drink for those who wish to carry on chatting! (Not included in price.)
