Join me in Hallowe'en week for a sinister slice of pitch-dark history served up in the City's spookiest spots. As we brave twisty medieval alleyways, old execution sites and ruined churchyards, you will hear about brutal crimes and equally grisly punishments that will chill you to the core... (Pls note: this is not a ghost walk...)
- The gruesome murder of a 13-year-old apprentice girl that shook Georgian London
- A man boiled alive - to save the face of a queen
- The vengeful queen who stalks a ruined church holding her husband's heart (allegedly)
- The recipe for preserving a traitor's head to display on a spike
- The site where hundreds of heretics were burned to death
- The bodysnatchers who raided graves for fresh corpses to put on sale - at a pub...
- ...and the public execution site where hundreds of wrongdoers suffered a slow death at the end of a rope
Duration: around 90 minutes largely on the flat.
There won't be the usual post-walk meal as booking a large table in the City on a Thursday evening would be challenging... but I will be sending pub recommendations for those who fancy booking ahead individually.
